Key Changes and Updates for CUET UG 2026

NTA has introduced several significant modifications for CUET UG 2026 to streamline the examination and assessment process. Here are the highlights:

No Subject Restrictions: Students can now choose any subject for CUET UG, irrespective of their Class 12 subjects.

CBT Mode Only: The exam is exclusively conducted in Computer-Based Test (CBT) mode.

Reduced Subject Choices: The total number of subjects has been reduced from 63 to 37. Entrepreneurship, Teaching Aptitude, and Legal Studies have been removed.

Standardized Exam Duration: Each subject exam now has a fixed duration of 60 minutes.

General Aptitude Test for Discontinued Subjects: Admissions for subjects that have been removed will now be based on General Aptitude Test scores.

Syllabus Revisions: What's New?

The NTA has revised the CUET UG 2026 syllabus for 15 subjects, aiming to align the curriculum with updated academic learning standards. Candidates are strongly advised to review these changes thoroughly.

1. Economics
The topic of "Indian Economic Development" has been explicitly included in the syllabus. The focus has also shifted to include GDP & welfare considerations and a clearer understanding of money creation and the multiplier effect in Macroeconomics.
2. Business Studies
A new chapter on "Financial Markets" has been introduced, while the "Entrepreneurship Development" unit has been removed. The emphasis is now on application-based questions, case studies, and real-world business situations.
3. Mathematics / Applied Mathematics
Significant technical changes have been introduced in the Calculus and Probability modules of Section B1 (Core Mathematics). Notably, "Random Variables and their Probability Distributions" has been removed from the Probability unit, with content now limited to Conditional Probability, Bayes' Theorem, and Bernoulli Trials/Binomial Distribution. Integration of quadratic expressions has also been added.
4. History
The syllabus now emphasizes interpretation over memorization, maintaining the 12 themes but broadening their scope and rewording chapter names. This includes a more detailed exploration of agrarian society during the Mughal period and stronger linkages of Gandhi with the national movement.
5. Other Subjects
Changes have also been implemented in subjects like Computer Science and Physical Education, among others. For Biology, specific topics not included in the "Ecology and Environment" unit are clearly outlined, while Chemistry has seen consolidation of topics like Redox reactions and dry cells.

Candidates are strongly urged to refer to the official NTA website for subject-wise syllabus PDFs to ensure their preparation aligns with the latest changes.

CUET UG 2026 Exam Pattern and Marking Scheme

Current Status and Important Reminders

As of May 20, 2026, the CUET UG 2026 examinations are actively being conducted. Shift 1 of the May 19th exam has already concluded, with student reactions indicating varying difficulty levels across subjects. Mathematics was perceived as lengthy, while Biology and English were comparatively easier.

Despite recent rumors of CUET UG 2026 cancellation following issues with another major entrance exam (NEET UG), the NTA has officially confirmed that CUET UG 2026 has NOT been cancelled and the examination process is continuing as scheduled. While there have been reports of technical glitches, server crashes, and city allocation complaints, NTA has not announced any postponement or re-test for CUET UG 2026.
